  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Melt 6 oz. chocolate as directed on package; cool. Meanwhile, beat dressing, brown sugar and 2 tsp. vanilla in large bowl with mixer until blended. Beat in eggs and melted chocolate. Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Add to chocolate mixture alternately with boiling water, mixing well after each addition.
  • Pour into 2 parchment-lined 9-inch round pans sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Bake 30 to 35 min. or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool 10 min. Remove from pans to wire racks. Immediately remove parchment. Cool cakes completely.
  • Meanwhile, microwave remaining chocolate and butter in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 to 1-1/2 min. or until butter is melted, stirring every 30 sec. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Cool.
  • Add powdered sugar, milk and remaining vanilla to butter mixture; beat until blended. Use to fill and frost cake layers.

Substitute

Prepare using MIRACLE WHIP Light Dressing.

How to Store

Keep frosted cake refrigerated.

Special Extra

Garnish frosted cake with sliced fresh strawberries just before serving.

We also found that it tasted better the next day (not to say that it did not taste wonderful the day we made it) but it appears that the longer it sits the more moist it becomes and a richer taste as well. Highly recommend. My very picky sister was not going to eat it once she saw me put mayo in it but after listening to everyone rave about it she went ahead and tried a piece and now makes it regularly in her home.

It was our favorite, and it is still my favorite. I have made this recipe myself. I actually used this receipe for one of my college classes, where we had to do a demonstration for class. I shared it with the class, they all loved it. This recipe has been a part of my life for almost 50 years. Thank you Kraft Foods.

I must say it was easy and a joy to bake. The chocolate cake came out the oven nice and fluffy. This is a nice lite chocolate cake with lite/smooth frosting. I will definitely bake this cake again.

This makes a big cake, it puffed up a bit so hard to layer, but the icing is DELICIOUS. Cake is quite good but the icing makes it. Followed directions exactly. Mm!

It's really easy too. The frosting is a lot of work and I think the stuff in the can is just as good so I swap out most of the time.

I followed the recipe. Don't know what happened. Other than that cake was moist and flavorful. "Frosting" tasted good, too.

My hubby can't figure out how I didn't screw this one up (I have really bad luck when it comes to baking)! Absolutely to die for!
