Omit the bread crumbs, thyme and garlic. Instead coat the cream cheese cubes with 1/2 cup chopped sliced almonds before cooking as directed.
You can instead mix the crumb mixture on a rimmed baking sheet instead of in the bowl. Add cream cheese pieces, a few at a time, to the baking sheet, then toss to evenly coat cream cheese pieces with the crumb mixture. Cook in batches as directed in recipe. For best results, refrigerate the uncoated cheese cubes until ready to cook them to help them retain their shape when heated.
