  • Cook spaghetti in large saucepan as directed on package, omitting salt.
  • Meanwhile, combine all remaining ingredients except anchovies.
  • Drain spaghetti. Add ham mixture; toss to coat. Serve topped with anchovies.

Preparing Leeks

Leeks are grown in sandy soil and must be washed well before using. To prepare leeks, trim the roots and remove the dark green portions. Only the white portion of the leek is used. Chop or slice the white sections, then rinse in water to remove any soil or sand.

How to Store Canned Anchovies

Canned anchovies will keep in your pantry for about a year. Once opened, place any leftover fillets in an airtight container and add enough oil to cover. Stored this way in the refrigerator, the anchovies will keep for at least 2 months.

Preparing Perfect Pasta

Follow the package directions to ensure that enough water is used for cooking the pasta. Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook until al dente (tender but still a little firm to the bite), stirring frequently. To prevent pasta from sticking, add it slowly to plenty of boiling water and stir frequently while cooking. Adding oil to the cooking water is not recommended because some sauces may not cling to pasta coated with oil.
