Makeover - How We Did It

We kept all of the flavor and creaminess of a traditional pasta salad in this tasty version that's prepared with KRAFT Lite Zesty Italian Dressing and KRAFT 2% Milk Shredded Colby & Monterey Jack Cheeses. We also substituted MIRACLE WHIP Light Dressing for the mayonnaise, and used a reduced amount. As a result of these simple substitutions, this makeover saves 160 calories and 21g of fat, including 4.5g of sat fat, per serving when compared to that of the traditional salad.

Special Extra

Add 1/2 tsp. of your favorite dried herb, such as dill or basil.

Make Ahead

This flavorful salad can be refrigerated up to 24 hours before serving.

Ratings & Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a really tasty salad. This is a really tasty salad. My son, who is generally not a mac salad lover, consistently asks for this. The recipe calls for a cup of pasta; I make an entire box and double the recipe. I only used the cheese crumbles a couple of times. I usually just cut up cheddar cheese into small pieces. Definitely a crowd pleaser!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was very light but had lots of flavor. It was very light but had lots of flavor. I liked how vegetables were a good majority of the recipe and they added great color and texture. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This has become a summertime staple for me. This has become a summertime staple for me. It's super creamy and tastes better than non-light versions. I've taken this multiple times already to cookouts this year and it has been a hit! Only problem is, I haven't been able to find the low fat cheese crumbles in my grocery store, so I make it with regular crumbles. Makes it a little higher in fat/calories, but I just don't eat those and it still tastes wonderful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a very easy and quick reipe to make. This is a very easy and quick reipe to make. Infact, I doubled the recipe since we are expecting a large crowd to our Sunday afternoon BBQ. It really didn't take much time at all, mix up everything, put it in a bowl, cover and stick in the fridge until guests arrive. Memorial Day party, 4th of July party or just any BBQ cook out, it's perfect!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My husband is constantly asking me to make pasta salad with miracle whip instead of mayo. My husband is constantly asking me to make pasta salad with miracle whip instead of mayo. I don't care for pasta salad, but made it for him and he loved it! The best part is he "hates" anything that is "lowfat" or made with lowfat ingredients. I didn't tell him and he never knew the difference!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is very good...in fact I always make a double batch even if it's just for two of us. This is very good...in fact I always make a double batch even if it's just for two of us. I do change it up a little...for a DOUBLE batch I use 1/4 cup diced red peppers, 1 cup diced cucumbers, and 2 bags of the cheese crumbles. I have never had a complaint with this pasta salad. So yummy!!

This is a very quick and delicious side salad, everyone loved it (including my 2 year old). It is very colorful also. My store didn't have the cheese crumbles so I bought slices and chopped them up, that worked just fine. I will definitely be making this again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Added some black pepper and garlic powder to add some more flavor. Added some black pepper and garlic powder to add some more flavor. Also used light mayo b/c I'm not a miracle whip fan. Turned out great. Made this for a tailgate and everyone liked it. How can you go wrong with a salad that has chunks of cheese in it??
