A pizza inside of a cheeseburger sounds too good to be true, but we did it with this burger topped with pizza sauce and mozzarella.
fine dry bread crumbs
8-ounce can pizza sauce
teaspoon dried basil or oregano, crushed
ounces pepperoni, finely chopped
hamburger buns, split and toasted
shredded mozzarella cheese
1. In a medium mixing bowl combine egg, bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons of the pizza sauce, basil or oregano, salt, and pepper. Add ground beef and pepperoni; mix well. Shape meat mixture into six 3/4-inch-thick patties.
2. Grill burgers directly over medium coals for 14 to 18 minutes or until center reaches 160 degree F, turning once halfway through grilling.
3. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan heat the remaining pizza sauce. Place burgers on the bottom halves of the buns. Spoon some of the remaining pizza sauce over the burgers. Sprinkle burgers with mozzarella cheese. Top with remaining bun halves. Pass any remaining pizza sauce. Makes 6 servings.
