Heat broiler. Place chile on foil-covered baking sheet. Broil, 4 inches from heat, 7 to 10 min. or until peel is evenly blackened, turning occasionally. Place chile in paper bag; close bag. Let stand 20 min. or until chile is cooled. Remove chile from bag. Peel away blackened skin with small knife; discard skin. Cut chile lengthwise in half; use edge of sharp knife to scrape away the seeds.
