Substitute

Substitute chopped cooked ham for the cooked sausage.

Purchasing and Storing Eggs

Buy only refrigerated eggs with clean unbroken shells. Open carton and gently move each egg to make sure it is not stuck to the carton because of an unseen crack. Check the Sell-By Date on the carton. Store eggs in their original carton on an inside shelf of the refrigerator as soon as possible after purchasing. Avoid placing near foods with strong odors that can easily be absorbed. For best quality, use within 4 weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great recipe that I've been using for years. Great recipe that I've been using for years. I mostly make it on Christmas morning and it's great for holidays when you want something more than the usual but don't have a lot of time. I normally use turkey breakfast sausage links and cook them the night before. In the morning, I just have to throw it all in the pan and bake!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very simple and versatile. Very simple and versatile. Its more of a method than a recipe because you can alter it a million different ways with different meats or vegetables. I have a large family so I add more eggs and substitute 1 cup of milk for sour cream. Yum!

Took this to my breakfastpotluck at work and everyone was going for seconds, I do recommend the following adjustments instead of what is listed - 2 lbs. sausage, 1 c. milk, 1 c. sour cream, 7 large eggs, 2 1/2 c. cheese, I didnot tear bread, but trimed off the edges and used enough to line the bottom (8 slices), do not need to add salt b/c of the seasoned sausage, added chopped onions when sausage was 1/2 done, added chopped green peppers to egg mixture. Delicious!

I needed a quick and easy breakfast casserole recipe for "food day" at work, and this was perfect! I used 4 slices of french bread, instead of 6 slices of white, and I only used 1 1/2 cups of milk instead of 2. I also sauteed onions and tomatoes and added that to my egg mixture. I made two pans - one with sausage, and one with ham, and both were gone by 10:30 a.m.! I will definitely be making this again, not only for work, but at home for my family! Thanks!!

Everyone asked for the recipe. I changed the recipe a bit per the recommendations of others that rated the recipe. I substituted 1c sour cream for 1c of the milk and added onion with the sausage. I also baked it for 10 minutes longer than the recipe says because it wasn't quite set. It was so yummy!!!

I made this over New Years Eve for our family ski trip (about 18 people) so I made a double batch. I made it wiht chopped ham, green peppers, and onions, I didn't haev as much milk as I needed but added two extra eggs to each recipe and it turned out just great there wasn't one bite left, this will soon become a family favorite and it was very easy to put together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is a great recipe that can be refrigerated overnight and baked the next morning. It is a great recipe that can be refrigerated overnight and baked the next morning. I don't recommend substituting the bulk sausage for other quick sausage links. Also be careful not to overcook-will dry out fast. I made it for Christmas and had great leftovers for work. Stale bread works best and I have used different kinds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was one of the best egg casseroles that I've eaten! This was one of the best egg casseroles that I've eaten! And so easy to make. I did jazz it up a bit with onion and green pepper; and like a previous reviewer, I made it with sour cream and milk rather than all milk. It was so delicious and made the house smell wonderful! I will definitely make this recipe again and again!
