I was checking out the menu for this week and read the comments posted for this recipe. It sounds a little bland, my family is not big on peas either, especially frozen ones. I cook a similar recipe that mixes a can of tomato soup, and a can of cut green beans in with the beef. Then, instead of rice, use already prepared instant mashed potatoes and cover with cheddar. Bake for 20-30 minutes. The potatoes turn orange when you get it on your plate, so it doesn't always look appealing, but it is very good, I've never met a kid who didn't like it once they tasted it, even the REALLY picky ones!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thank you for your ideas. Thank you for your ideas. I had ground beef and need something new. I went on line and found this recipe. My two-year-old triplets are not big fans of rice so I used Idaho Southwest style mashed potatoes instead. I also used cream of mushroom with roasted garlic, and corn. I also was out of milk so I used sour cream like someone else had suggested. I impressed my husband and myself; the kids ate it up too. I'm usually not one for making things up as I go, but tonight was definitely an exception. Thank you all for your comments to read and the basic recipe that I tweaked. Michelle

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Made this for dinner last night. Made this for dinner last night. I had read previous reviews about it being bland so I was prepared to add some extras. I used some mixed veggies instead of peas. Used the whole can of soup. I also added onions to the beef while cooking and some extra garlic powder, salt, lots of pepper, seasoning blend, and a dash of cumin. I also put a few pats of butter on top of the rice and covered in tinfoil in the oven for a few minutes then added the cheese and cooked till it melted. It was really good, all 3 kids cleaned their plates!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like to embellish so here are some of my additions. I like to embellish so here are some of my additions. The beef I sprinkled with garlic, pepper, and salt. I added onions green peppers, and fresh celery until while the meet was browning and let them get soft but firm. I cooked it in a rice steamer. (You can use beef broth in the rice steamer if you want; sometimes I do sometimes not) I followed the recipe but I used Italian style green beens instead of the peas. You can prepare in advance put in the freg. an bake when you get home. Everybody loved it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This turned out delicious. This turned out delicious. However, I made a slight variation. I used an entire soup can of Cheddar Cheese soup vs. the Cream of Celery. I also seasoned the ground beef with Emeril's Original Essence. Additionally I used 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef and sprinkled a layer of cheese on the beef first before layering the rice. I also topped the casserole with cheese as well. Next time I think I will do a layers of rice, beef, cheese, rice and cheese again to have more of a lasagna effect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I give this 5 stars using my modifications. I give this 5 stars using my modifications. I was worried that it might be bland if I followed the recipe as is so I gave it four stars. I added some chopped onion when I browned the hamburger. I used 1/2 salt and 1/2 mixed seasoning instead of the thyme since my husband doesn't like thyme. But I think what made it was the addition of 1/4 cup tomato sauce and 1tablespoon steak sauce. I used brown rice since that's what I had in the fridge. I couldn't stop eating it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just a comment for the person who didn't understand what Prep Time means. Just a comment for the person who didn't understand what Prep Time means. It means the time to gather the ingredients as listed, including the time to prep the ingredients. If you put the Minute Rice on first and then chop the garlic and you used the packaged grated cheese, it can be done easliy in 5 minutes or less. The only change I would make is using the quick cook Brown Rice for more nutritional value. I hope this helps. : )

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I used a bag of Frozen Peas and Mushrooms with Garlic Seasoning, a whole can of cream of mushroom... I used a bag of Frozen Peas and Mushrooms with Garlic Seasoning, a whole can of cream of mushroom soup and minute brown rice. It was edible but nothing exciting. I highly doubt my changes made that much of a difference in what the final product would have been. If I hadn't used the entire can of soup and more milk then the recipe would have turned out dry, mine was creamy which I feel worked best with the rice.
