I was looking for a different chocolate cake recipe. One that was easy and would delight my family of many ages. I saw this recipe and it was very easy to make. The frosting was a great hit and also very easy to do. The B-day party was the next day and the cake was refridgerated over night. This not not in any way compromise the delight we had when we tasted this treat. The frosting held it's shape and texture. I believe the cream cheeese was the answer to the frosting. I dusted the top of the layered cake frosting with cocoa. The left over pieces were just as delightful as the first bite. This will become one of our favorites . I received many compliments and I credit them to you. Thanks Joyce

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought a white cake mix that only said "add water". I bought a white cake mix that only said "add water". I added the red food coloring and baking chocolate as stated. The cake came out flat and spongy-rubbery...it was embarrassing when I served it at a Christmas party recently. The recipe ingredients do not state eggs and oil but the instructions do...so that made it confusing. I baked the cake according to the instructions from the box..."add water". It was a disaster! I rather make "Red Velvet" cake from scratch...rather than taking short-cuts! It's worth the effort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I haven't tried this recipe yet, but, I will in the near future. I haven't tried this recipe yet, but, I will in the near future. 30 years ago I had a receipe for a special icing that tasted lighter than whipping cream in a can, which was made with real whipping cream, cooked in a double boiler and cooled in the refrigerator. It was supposedly a $500 recipe, and I believe it was worth it. I would love to have it again. Everyone who ate this icing loved it and reqested it for all kinds of social events.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm not sure what cake mix the prev. I'm not sure what cake mix the prev. person used, but you have to use a quality cake mis with any recipe. i would not dare use a cake mix that stats "just add water" Regardless, I love this recipe! I make it for my family and co-workers all the time, and even my husbands friends request that I make them one! I will continue to use this recipe for making this cake. Thanks Kraft for making a difficult cake easy to make and very good!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For using a box cake mix this cake was awesome. For using a box cake mix this cake was awesome. I didn't have any baking chocolate so I used cocoa powder instead, it turned out so good. I also used a store bought buttercream frosting and it was also very good. You have to add almost a whole bottle of red food coloring though to get the traditional red velvet color. For a box mix I think this is as close to the real thing as it gets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This cake was delicious! This cake was delicious!! We loved this so much everyone had seconds and thirds - there was nothing left. I added mini chocolate chips to the cake and it added a little more chocolate to the taste which everyone enjoyed. I also only added half the amount of red food coloring and the cake turned out plenty dark. Can't wait to make this again.

I decided to try something different and made these cupcakes to bring into work on a Friday. Everyone at work RAVED about how delicious and moist they were. I even kept them in the fridge overnight and they were still delicious. I think the cream cheese frosting got the highest reviews. I've already been asked to bring in more...
