  • Bring meat, water and barbecue sauce to boil in Dutch oven or large deep skillet; cover. Simmer on medium-low heat 1 hour.
  • Add vegetables; stir. Cook, covered, 1 hour or until meat and vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in steak sauce; cook 2 min.

Special Extra

Sprinkle with chopped fresh thyme leaves just before serving.

Slow-Cooker Preparation

Place all ingredients except steak sauce in slow cooker; cover with lid. Cook on LOW 8 hours (or on HIGH 4 hours). Stir in steak sauce; cook 2 min.

My husband loved it - he would give it 5 stars. I added 4 Tbsp of flour (I didn't level it off), 1/2 package of onion mix (I had a 1/2 left over from something else - probably would be good with an entire package), and I cut the A1 to 1/8 of a cup. I tasted the A1 but it wasn't overpowering.

I followed some of the other recommendations by adding the onion soup mix and flour. I only added half the A1 which was still too much. I cooked the veggies for almost 2 hours and they still did not cook all the way. I did not care for the flavor and I would not make this again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't like at all. Didn't like at all. If I wasn't expecting it to taste like a traditional beef stew maybe it wouldn't have been so bad but it didn't taste anything like it and the texture wasn't thicker like a stew it seemed more like watery soup

My mother used to make the best beef stew and I didn't know until older that she used a can of cream of tomato soup in it. Now that I've made this, I like the BBQ sauce a lot. Will definitely make this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly amazing. Surprisingly amazing. I'm not a good stew maker, and this turned out awesome. I added some lentils to increase the nutritional value and an extra half cup of water.
