Special Equipment Needed

Cooking Know-How

Taking the lid off your slow cooker for even just a minute reduces the heat and extends the cooking time. Lift the lid only if instructed to do so in the recipe.

Slow-Cooker Size

Slow cookers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. For best results, use an oval 5-qt. slow cooker when preparing this recipe so the dumplings have room to expand, resulting in fluffier dumplings.

Prepare using a boneless pork shoulder.

How to Easily Shape the Stuffing Balls

Use moistened hands to shape the stuffing mixture into balls to help prevent it from sticking to your hands.

Ratings & Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This was an excellent recipe until i added the dumplings. This was an excellent recipe until i added the dumplings. i would recommend preparing them separately and then adding them at the diner's discretion. the stuffing flavor was overwhelming to the rest of the meal when cooked in the slow cooker and they fell apart when we tried to get them out. Otherwise, it was amazing!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great slow cooker meal. Great slow cooker meal. After reading the other reviews I did not add the stuffing balls and I'm glad because the stew did not need it. Had great flavor without. The cream cheese gave it a hint of tanginess.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs to be thicker to be a stew If I were to make it again, I'd definitely thicken it with cornstarch or flour. Even after standing 15 minutes, it is soupy... I would also add a bit of garlic to it as well... and salt and pepper!
