Taking the lid off your slow cooker for even just a minute reduces the heat and extends the cooking time. Lift the lid only if instructed to do so in the recipe.
Use moistened hands to shape the stuffing mixture into balls to help prevent it from sticking to your hands.
Slow cookers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. For best results, use an oval 5-qt. slow cooker when preparing this recipe so the dumplings have room to expand, resulting in fluffier dumplings.

I cooked this in this crockpot per the recipe directions, not on the stove. I put in the dumplings and they did not fall apart nor was their flavor overwhelming. I'm not sure what happened with the other reviewers. The only thing I did different was add a couple cloves of fresh garlic. This will definitely be made again. We may try it with the pork flavored stuffing next time.
Great slow cooker meal. After reading the other reviews I did not add the stuffing balls and I'm glad because the stew did not need it. Had great flavor without. The cream cheese gave it a hint of tanginess.
The recipe concept is great!I used pork butt cut in cubes for much more flavor& texture meat needs a little fat to be good i also cooked this in top of stove in my big heavy dutch oven the stew needs to be simmering when you add the dumplings or they will fall apart I didnt have ang chive cream cheese spread so I added regular cream cheese( cubed it up first) & small chopped onion & 2 minced garlic Came out wonderful Everyone loved it
