Make It

  • Mix dry cake and pudding mixes in large bowl with whisk until blended. Add next 4 ingredients; mix well. Stir in chopped chocolate. Pour into slow cooker lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray; cover with lid.
  • Cook on LOW 4 to 5 hours (or on HIGH 3 to 3-1/2 hours) or until top surface of cake has no wet spots and cake begins to pull away from side of slow cooker.
  • Serve warm topped with COOL WHIP.

Size Wise

Sweets can be part of a balanced diet but remember to keep tabs on portions.

Slow Cooker Tip

This recipe works best in a round slow cooker between 4 and 5 qt. If your slow cooker is larger than this, line the empty slow cooker with heavy-duty foil sprayed with cooking spray before using as directed. This helps prevent the edges of the cake from overcooking.

Special Extra

For a richer chocolate flavor, add 1 Tbsp. MAXWELL HOUSE Instant Coffee to the dry ingredients before adding the sour cream, water, oil and eggs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have been ****** this recipe for years. I have been ****** this recipe for years. It is a family favorite. I use one 12oz bag of chocolate chips and a very important step that is not mentioned here is to cover the crockpot with paper towels. The towels will absorb the moisture and prevent it from collecting on the top of the cake. I usually change out the towels once during the cooking process. The is a keeper!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've made this twice - very easy and super tasty. I've made this twice - very easy and super tasty. Tip: don't chop the bakers' chocolate into super tiny tiny shavings... leaving small chunks gives the cake a more entertaining texture. I've made it on the slow cooker's "low" setting twice, and both times the cake needed 6 or more hours, not 4-5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's better than warm cake with cool whip? NOTHING! A co-worker once gave me a similar recipe but it burned halfway through the cooking time and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know. This recipe included the aluminum foil tip and it made a big difference. I actually made this as a birthday cake and everyone went crazy for it. It's a new twist on an old favorite and I've made it 3 times so far with success.
