Slow-Cooker Smothered Chicken with Bacon & Onions

  • Cook and stir bacon in large skillet on medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon from skillet with slotted spoon; drain on paper towels. Drain all but 2 Tbsp. drippings from skillet. Add onions to reserved drippings; cook 15 to 18 min. or until golden brown, stirring occasionally and adding flour, pepper and half the bacon to skillet for the last minute. Whisk in broth until blended. (Onion mixture will be thick.)
  • Add chicken to slow cooker; cover with onion mixture. Cook on LOW 4 to 5 hours (or on HIGH 2 to 3 hours). About 15 min. before ready to serve, cook noodles as directed on package, omitting salt.
  • Drain noodles; place on platter. Top with chicken, reserving onion mixture in slow cooker. Mix cream cheese spread, milk and garlic powder until blended. Add to onion mixture; mix well. Spoon over chicken; top with parsley and remaining bacon.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with hot steamed green beans.

How to Safely Store Bacon

Store unopened packages of bacon in the refrigerator until the “Use by Date” stamped on the package. Once opened, wrap tightly and refrigerate up to 1 week. To freeze bacon, wrap the unopened, vacuum-sealed package tightly in freezer-safe material, then freeze up to 1 month. Thaw in refrigerator before using.

For easy cleanup, line slow cooker with plastic liner bag before filling with ingredients and cooking as directed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Done Stove Top I always check out reviews; some people mentioned "cooking cream." I don't see that in the list of ingredients. What are they talking about? I omitted the garlic (husband's request) and sprinkled a bit of "Better Than Bouillon" (chicken) just to add extra flavor and make up for the garlic flavor I had left out. Tastes wonderful - can't wait for dinner.

I missed that it was supposed to be made with the cream cheese spread and ended up just whipping a regular cream cheese block up instead which worked. I also doubled the garlic powder because I love garlic. This needed way more salt though. I know there was bacon, but I think the center cut bacon is not as salty? Definitely had to add salt to the dish. With the salt addition this was great, and easy, easy clean up too...

My husband already asked me to make it again and I just made it a couple of days ago, he said it is "Craveable". This is a keeper for my recipe book! Thanks Food and Family for another great recipe!

The house smelled great and my picky eaters gave it the stamp of approval. I couldn't find any of the kraft cooking cream, so I just added some garlic to the cream cheese. It seemed fine. The family is begging me to make this recipe again soon!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cooked Faster without Slow Cooker After I reviewed the reciepe, I decided to try it without the slower cooker. In total the receipe took 45min to cook, and there was more flavor because I pan fried the thighs which gave the dish the extra zip... I gave it a good rating because it was good overall. (minus the slow-cooker...lol)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We loved this! We loved this! My stores aren't carrying cooking cream either (don't know why) so used onion/chive spread w/ chick stocked add to thin it out and used breast; also baked it in the oven instead of slow cooker. Flavor was GREAT!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from And low to moderate sodium content too! I'll be honest, I haven't made this recipe yet, but I intend to after my next trip to the grocery store. I expect I shall enjoy it very much. I'll probably boost the onion content - because, well, I'm an onion fan. If you find it a bit bland, I would suggest you consider adding some salt to taste after cooking. This recipe as written is just 390 mg sodlium per serving - my target is no entree higher than 400 mg per serviing. (Thanks, Kraft! Very few sites produce low sodium recipes that broadly appealing. And, if has bacon as well, yum!) I am on a very low sodium diet, and I know from experience that those accustomed to conventional cooking (recipes) many find lower sodium recipes flat or bland. On the other hand, after you eat low sodium for a couple months, conventional cooking may taste like brine to the person consuming the food.
