  • Cook grits as directed on package.
  • Meanwhile, cook and stir bacon in large skillet on medium-heat heat until crisp. Remove from skillet with slotted spoon; drain on paper towels. Add shrimp, onions and garlic to drippings in skillet; cook and stir 3 min. or until shrimp turn pink. Add bacon, parsley and lemon juice; mix well.
  • Add cheese to grits; mix well. Serve topped with shrimp mixture.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with a mixed green salad to round out the meal.

How to Devein Raw Shrimp

To devein raw shrimp, first remove the outer shell. Then make a lengthwise shallow cut on the outer curve of the shrimp to expose the black vein. Loosen the vein with the tip of a sharp knife, then pull with your fingers to remove.

Special Extra

For added heat, season with hot pepper sauce to taste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from i have never eaten grits, but the picture made it oh so tempting. i have never eaten grits, but the picture made it oh so tempting. it was pretty good. i would definetly make it again, personally i think it tasted better the next day. i think i added too much water to the grits, so it wasn't creamy as it looks in the picture (more on the soupy side) we don't eat bacon, so i used the veggie bacon. also, i foolishly added salt to the shrimp when i was cleaning it, something i do out of habit, so the dish was a little bit on the salty side, but otherwise its pretty decent. i don't consider this to be a main meal item, but a great side dish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The shrimp were phenomenal. The shrimp were phenomenal. The grits to water proportion is way off though. We cooked them stovetop but they never thickened properly. We decided to start over and toss some in the microwave and go from there...those were excellent. Had the grits not been yucky based on the directions this would definitely be a five star recipe. My 3 year old asked for thirds and my 6 year old said it was "beyond super." That has to be out of this world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boy am I thrilled that I found this recipe! Boy am I thrilled that I found this recipe! It was so easy, I had all the ingredients on hand (except the green onions, I just used a yellow onion), and it was so delicious. It was also great for lunch the next day. I couldn't help but snitch some of the cold shrimp before I warmed up my plate. Even if you don't like grits, you could make the shrimp as directed and pour it over pasta or rice. So simple and so good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I would recommend a few changes to this recipe. I would recommend a few changes to this recipe. Add smoked gouda instead of cheddar cheese. Add apple-wood smoked bacon to boost the flavor. Add a portobello mushroom cap, sliced and 3 T of butter, shallots, 2 cups of fresh spinach along with the green onions, garlic, parsley, and lemon juice. Hot sauce is a great kick up a notch-- good ole' Tabasco. Serve this with a white wine and you're good to go.

A local restaurant in town serves a version of this receipe, and I must say that this recipe was MUCH better! The only change I made to this recipe was I added extra garlic ! YUMMY !! To aid in cooking as an "after church lunch" meal I fried my bacon the night before and just saved the grease! My kids even asked for seconds!! You can't go wrong if you have a seafood lover in your home !

I made this for my parents and my husband last night and they can be some of the most critical guests to cook for!! Well after this was done they raved about it! It was perfect. The only thing I changed was to add more bacon and I mixed all ingredients once cooked into a 13x9 casserole and then baked in oven for 15 - 20 mins to get in good and hot. So delicious!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is EXCELLENT! This is EXCELLENT! However, like others have mentioned, the grits to water ratio is way off. Granted, I cut the recipe in half since I was only making it for myself, but I didn't have a problem w/ any of the other ingredients except these two. But in the end, I made it work and it came out excellent. I'll definitely be making this again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from We are southerners & we all felt like it was missing something. We are southerners & we all felt like it was missing something. The shrimp was really good, but the grits were bland. Next time I'll try what other reviewers did and use chicken broth instead of water and add the cajun seasoning - hope it works bc it would be great to make this at home instead of having to go out to eat it.
