  • Mix pears, brown sugar, tapioca, lemon juice, ginger and cinnamon in large bowl. Let stand 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare pie crusts as directed on package for 2-crust pie, using 9-inch pie plate. Fill with fruit mixture. Dot with butter. Cover with second pie crust; seal and flute edge. Cut several slits into top crust to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until juices form bubbles that burst slowly. Cool.

How to Choose Pears

Use Bartlett or Bosc pears for best results.

Special Extra

Cover edge of pie crust with strip of foil for the last 15 min. of the baking time to prevent it from browning too much.

But, I thought that this site was here to help new and inexperienced cooks. Please reprint this Pear Pie recipe and put in the proper amout of Tapioca to be used. It will be helpful to all of us. I also used pears from my backyard....I increased the brown sugar to 3/4cup, doubled the cinnamon and used one more cup of pears. This pie did not last long at my house.....my son is not a big fruit pie eater...but he loved the pear pie!!!!!

I am terrible with pastry so I shy away from making pies, but this one sounded so good that I just had to try it. Boy am I glad I did! It was a huge success and everyone wanted the recipe!
