Place unwrapped butter on microwaveable plate. Microwave on HIGH 10 to 15 sec. or until slightly softened.
Substitute ground cinnamon and an apple for the ground cloves and pear.
Cloves can be purchased ground or whole. Use an electric grinder or small food processor to grind whole cloves, since their hard texture make them difficult to grind. Store in an airtight container out of direct light. Do not use whole cloves in this recipe.

Okay, I've found a new Fall Favorite! One bit of this and you'll be transported to Thanksgiving! I made a few adjustments (pantry shortage) : I had only 1 cup all-purp flour, so I used 1/2 cup wheat flour. Also, I used 2 pears and one apple (I love the combination). I think that less than that (or 3 of just one) wouldn't have been enough fruit. I made this with my daughter and got so wrapped up in cooking with her that I forgot to add the spices! I did, however, mix just a touch of brown sugar, ground cloves, and cinnamon into the cool whip and topped each slice with that. It was great! I will make this for all the winter holidays! It's very dense, almost like a pound cake, so I think it would be nice for breakfast also. :)
