  • Rinse clean plastic containers and lids with boiling water. Dry thoroughly.
  • Crush strawberries thoroughly, one layer at a time. Measure exactly 4 cups crushed strawberries into large bowl.
  • Mix sugar and pectin in large saucepan. Stir in water. Bring to boil on medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add strawberries; stir 1 minute or until well blended.
  • Fill all containers immediately to within 1/2 inch of tops. Wipe off top edges of containers; immediately cover with lids. Let stand at room temperature 24 hours. Jam is now ready to use. Store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks or freeze extra containers up to 1 year. Thaw in refrigerator before using.

Sure-jell was sold out at store so I had to buy **** RealFruit Low or No-Sugar Needed Pectin. I want to use this recipe because it turned out really well the last time I made it but not sure how much of 5his pectin to substitute for the box of Sure-jell?

I've made both this reduced sugar version and the regular, this is actually much better - there is plenty of sugar in this version and the freezer jam recipe sets up much better than the regular which always tends to be runny. My husband doesn't care for super-sweet, and this fits the bill, you can really taste the fruit. I would encourage you to try it instead of the regular recipe.

I've only ever made cooked jams, jellies and preserves. My friend makes this recipe every year, so I knew it was something I'd like. Delicious! But you should definitely revise the prep time from 30 minutes to 1 hour. I'm a fast worker in the kitchen, so if it took me a full hour, I'm sure it will take most people that long.
