Ratings & Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My family LOVED this! My family LOVED this! We varied it slightly and used it as a base for tacos and burritos. It was delicious! The only change I made was that I substituted taco seasoning for chili powder. Other than that, I made the recipe up to the point of the lettuce and tomatoes. We placed the rice mixture in the bottom of a taco shell or tortilla then added lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, or anything else we love in a taco or burrito. This mixture warms up well too! We will use this recipe from now on; this is our new way to eat tacos and burritos!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've made something like this for years and it's a family staple. I've made something like this for years and it's a family staple. I use four 10" tortillas as a base on individual plates (makes four individual Tex-Mex dinners). I use taco mix instead of seasonings, 2 c. chicken broth instead of broth/water mix and divide among four servings. To tomatoes and lettuce, try adding chopped onion and shredded cheddar. We top it off with Russian dressing and crushed Doritos.... very tasty.

Made some changes, used ground turkey instead of the beef, 1 pkg of chili seasoning instead of chili powder, 14 oz can of reduced sodium chicken broth, used Velvetta instead of cheez whiz, added 1 can red beans. Served it over bagged lettuce. Topped with sour cream. Served with tostitos on the side. Delicious! Both my sons ages 9 & 12 gobbled it right up. Will be making this again.

I added Velveeta instead of Cheez Whiz, black beans, Rotel tomatoes, and used taco seasoning instead of chili powder. The results were pretty tasty and had a little zip. It ends up being like the inside of the burritos at all those chain burrito places, but I liked it better.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This was not as good as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't awful either. This was not as good as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't awful either. It was very quick and easy to make, however it was very bland. I think it serves as a good "base" recipe just to get you going, but it definitely needs some tweaking before it's a really delicious dish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I added onion to the ground beef while it browned and added rotel to the mixture. I added onion to the ground beef while it browned and added rotel to the mixture. I had some left over so I added 2 cups or pasta sauce to the meat mixture and stuffed bell peppers with it. I got two meals for the price of one, literally!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Wow! This was great! My picky eaters actually all liked it. I used taco seasoning to season the beef and had to use cheese soup instead of cheez whiz. The kids want the leftovers for lunch today.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little bland, as others have said. A little bland, as others have said. I used taco seasoning as well, but next time I'll use the whole packet. Good though, I served with the lettuce and tomato, but also sour cream and cheese.
