The Ultimate Grilled Cheese

I love this recipe. I've also made it with the spicy red pepper mayo for a little extra kick!!

I did not care for this sandwich at all-maybe the reason it did not turn out well was because I used fat-free salad dressing.

I thought maybe this recipe would be better than a recipe using butter but I was wrong.

What makes this ULTIMATE is the cheese, Velveeta is the best. Using Miracle whip instead of butter just made it less greasy. It felt much healthier when eating it, (if grilled cheese can be considered healthy.) I only put whip on the outside because previous ratings said it made it soggy. Overall i liked it because the one thing i didnt like abou grilled cheese was the greasiness, and this definitely cured that. If are one of the ones that like the buttery taste then just use butter.

A different alternative, not better than the traditional tho in my opinion.

I used mayonnaise instead. A very tasty alternative to using butter or margarine. You have control over where the mayo goes (in the sunken in edges of the bread) & don't have to grease the whole pan. The bread browns up nice. Could do without the mayo on the inside though. Does make it a little soggy. Can't tell the bread was covered in mayo first. Just a slight tang, but that's what makes it tastier than butter. Will definitely make again.

My husband is the grilled cheese-maker in our house. He makes a superb sandwich by making a traditional grilled cheese using butter and at the very moment you take the sandwich out of the skillet, peel the bread away and add Miracle Whip! You'll have the tangy zip you're craving and the buttery goodness of a traditional grilled cheese sandwich. We just can't have the sandwiches unless he's home :-)

It tasted fine, however it didn't cook as well. The sandwich was crispy on the outside and really soggy on the inside, so the texture wasn't pleasant. I recommend just sticking to margarine.

I made the recipe as directed, but I noticed the LACK of butter flavor, more than I noticed the Miracle Whip flavor. It isn't that the sandwich isn't good. I just felt that it was lacking something. I did this recipe in a side by side taste test with 1/2 the sandwich made with Miracle Whip, and 1/2 made with Blue Bonnet. The miracle whip cooked up just like butter or margarine, but as I stated previously, I just really missed that butter flavor.
