  • Cook turkey in large heavy pot on medium heat until no longer pink, stirrring frequently. Add onion, green pepper and garlic; cook 2 min., stirring occasionally.
  • Add all remaining ingredients except crackers. Cover. Simmer 1-1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot with crackers.

Substitute

Substitute 1 lb. ground beef for the ground turkey. Brown meat in large heavy pot as directed; drain. Add onion, green pepper and garlic; continue as directed.

    I don't like beans so I omitted the beans and the recipe is still great without them. I added a little bit of sugar. his is great wit cheddar cheese or cornbread.

    This is a great recipe. My husband loves it, and we make it at least once a month. We do modify it a little, but just to suit our tastes. We don't like onion and my husband isn't a huge fan of green pepper, so those are excluded. I use a can of diced tomatoes instead of chopping up 3 whole tomatoes, and I use a can of chili beans instead of kidney beans. I do not drain them, as the sauce adds to the flavor. SECRET TIP: I once put in seasoned salt, which I thought was chili powder. I also added the chili powder after realizing my error, and it actually turned out really well. I now use both!
