Unstuffed Cabbage Skillet Recipe

What You Need

3/4

lb. extra lean ground beef

1

medium yellow onion, chopped

1

pkt. GOOD SEASONS Zesty Italian Dressing Mix

1

can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes

8

cups shredded cabbage (about 1 lb.)

1

cup water

1

cup instant brown rice, uncooked

Make It

BROWN meat and onion with dressing packet in large skillet or Dutch oven on medium-high heat 4 to 6 minutes or until meat is cooked through.

ADD tomatoes and cabbage; stir. Reduce heat to simmer; cover tightly. Cook 20 to 25 minutes or until cabbage is tender.

STIR in water and rice; bring to boil. Cover; reduce heat and cook 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir and cover. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

This was awful! I followed the directions exactly and I think I will go back to making the cabbage rolls as they are supposed to be. Terrible flavor, looked disgusting, and tasted as bad.

I love this recipe, having made it many times, subbing 2 T Italian Seasoning and 4 garlic cloves, minced, for the bland Italian Dressing mix. Even using a jar of spaghetti marinara sauce for the Italian Seasoning and the crushed tomato makes this recipe so flavorful. Delish!

This was a quick, easy meal for a week night at home. I used leftover brown rice and added it to the mix just a few minutes before serving. The Italian Dressing Mix really added great flavor. I'll definitely make this again.

This was Very quick, easy clean up and Great. I would advise draining the meat tho. Came out a bit greasy. Makes a good amount too.

I added 1 T of minced garlic & some pepper. I also only used 2/3 cup if water. Two cups of water sounded like way too much. Sprinkled with shredded Monterey Jack cheese which really made a difference. Serve with a side of potatoes. Quick & hearty dish.

Great recipe! I used turkey instead of ground beef and added some fresh garlic, crushed red peppers and a few more chopped tomatoes. Really easy and it makes a lot so we had leftovers!

I made this with ground turkey and did not use instant rice (added cooked rice to the skillet), but otherwise followed the recipe. It was good. Very filling. I will make it again, but I will add garlic and lots more seasoning...maybe try other seasoning packets for variety. It was a bit bland, as others have mentioned, if you follow the recipe...but definitely has a lot of potential.
