I used ground turkey meat (because it's healthier) instead of hamburger, red potatoes (because they were on sale) instead of new, and frozen green beans (because that's what was in my freezer) instead of corn. I love the concept and ease of this dish. I did find that the Italian dressing was not flavorful enough in the meat, so I added more chili powder and cumin. So, it turned out quite tasty. I tend to use recipes as rough outlines, and this one's a keeper. Also it only took 4 of the red potatoes, so I'll be doing something creative with the leftover 2. Maybe some broccoli cheddar concoction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Forget the new potatoes! Forget the new potatoes! I used instant mashed potatoes flavored with roasted garlic and butter instead. This cut the prep time to a fraction. Since we didn't have an Italian cheese on hand, I used a VERY mild white cheddar. This recipe is a winner! One of those dishes that is really difficult to ruin. Cut the bake time in half if you choose to cheat with instant mashed potatoes. Note there was a lot of water/oil once the meat was cooked with all the veggies. I recommend draining the water/oil before spooning the beef mixture over the potatoes.

I mashed my potatoes along with some carrots to make it go a bit further and I added some pasta sauce to the meat mixture because it was too dry. I sprinkled the top with some mozzarella and Parmesan cheese and I also seasoned the dish throughout with some salt and pepper.

I made a number of substitutions for this recipe; garlic vinagrette for the Italian dressing, chicken for the beef, and mixed veggies for the corn. I actually mashed the potatoes. I wish that I had put cheese in them. The fun part of this recipe is that it's "upside down". It was delicious. I kept the fifth star because of the changes that I made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I altered this recipe a little and it turned out fantastic. I altered this recipe a little and it turned out fantastic. Instead of just mashing the potatoes, I added milk and butter(the same as making homeade mashed potatoes). I also added frozen carrots and a little extra cheese. My children really loved it! I would definately eat this again, maybe I will add frozen green beans next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've made this many times, and it's really good! I've made this many times, and it's really good!! I prefer not to use the microwave for cooking, so I just use leftovers of what's in the fridge and add what I have in my pantry that would make it extra special. There are so many variations to this recipe that you can't really go wrong with it.

I used mashed potatoes (4 servings) because my taters didn;t look so hot, and I pressed them into the pan like a pie crust. It came out so pretty I hated to eat it, almost... this was SO tasty!!!! I just made it last night and I am already getting asked when I am making it again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This recipe is not too bad, but it did need more liquid as I felt it was too dry. This recipe is not too bad, but it did need more liquid as I felt it was too dry. My biggest complaint is that this needs a new name. Is not in Shepards pie if it has italina dressng and cheese and corn in it. other than that, not too bad
