  • Heat oven to 350ºF.
  • Mix first 3 ingredients; set aside. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs. Add yogurt and vanilla; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture until well blended.
  • Pour into 9-inch round pan sprayed with cooking spray; top with nuts.
  • Bake 30 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 min. Loosen cake from side of pan with knife. Invert cake onto wire rack; gently remove pan. Cool cake completely.

How to Test Cake for Doneness

To prevent overbaking, check cakes or cupcakes at the minimum baking time indicated in recipe. Insert a toothpick in center of cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. If it does not come out clean, return to the oven for a few additional minutes before rechecking.

Spice Cake

Prepare as directed, mixing 1/2 tsp. each ground cinnamon and ground cloves, and 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg with flour mixture before beating into butter mixture as directed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy and tastes really good. Easy and tastes really good. However, be careful that you do not under cook the cake. I baked for 30 min and checked with toothpick as directed. Although the toothpick came out clean, the middle of the cake was mushy.
