I've made these potatoes twice, once with instant mashed potatoes and with 2 tablespoons of creamy horseradish sauce, because I didn't have the prepared horseradish, and the second time I made these, I used russet potatoes and fresh ground prepared horseradish. I would suggest using russet potatoes, rather than the instant. When using instant potatoes, they were rather soupy, unless you make them a day ahead, and reheat them a day later. If you do use instant potatoes, I would sugget reducing the amount of sour cream. These potatoes taste best if made with recent store bought prepared horseradish, than with radish that's been sitting the fridge for quite sometime. My husband and I really these potatoes, and we'll most definitely make these again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Was very disappointed in the taste. Was very disappointed in the taste. I had my mother in law over for dinner last night, she likes just about everything, but could not eat these after one bite! Neither could my husband or 3 teenagers. YUK! But on a good note, this is the 1st recipe that we did not like, out of tons that I've tried from this web site that have been GREAT.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I made this recipe and used real mashed potatoes. I made this recipe and used real mashed potatoes. The sour cream overpowered the horseradish, and I think that the same thing would have happened if I had used the boxed kind. We just didn't think they were very good. Personally we like plain old mashed taters with some added sauted green onions and a bit of canned Parmesan cheese.

I liked them very much, I like the oomph that the horseradish gives the recipe. I have added a little more to the recipe to give it a little more punch. I have made the recipe 3 times and will continue doing so.

When I was little, my mom added milk, mayonaise and butter to instant potatoes and it was okay. After experimenting I found that Miracle Whip works great BUT Kraft Buttermilk Ranch Dressing and a dash of Ms Dash.......awesome! Ranch dressing works on a baked potato too!!!!

The horseradish was very dominant. I might cut it in half next time. I like the kick that it gives the potatoes, but maybe not so much.
