Melt butter and add sugar, mix until dissolved. Cool 2 minutes.
Add eggs, mix well. Add flour, baking powder and vanilla. Mix well. Fold in nuts and dates.
Pour into 8 or 9 inch square baking pan. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.
