Original recipe yields 1 serving
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 teaspoon s vanilla
2 tart apples (granny smith), about 8 ounces each, chopped
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Caramel frosting:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
3/4 cup confectioners sugar

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with cooking spray.

In medium size bowl, stir flour, salt, baking soda, and spices. Mix well.

In large bowl, beat eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture just until moistened. Fold in apples and nuts.

Spoon into prepared pan. Bake 50 to 55 minutes. Set on wire rack to cool. Prepare frosting.

Caramel Frosting:

Melt butter, add sugar, and boil stirring 1 minute or until slightly thick. Cool slightly.

Add milk and beat until smooth. Beat in confectioners sugar until icing is of spreading consistancy. Add more milk if needed. Spread a thin layer on cake.
