Wash the okra, then cut into slices about 1/4-inch thick.
In a separate bowl, mix cornmeal & flour, salt & pepper. Place 1 cup of okra at a time in the flour mixture, & coat well.
Oil should be hot (preferably using an iron skillet), put the okra into the oil using a slotted spoon. Cook until golden brown. Continue cooking small batches. Once the okra has cooled a bit, you may add diced tomatoes & onions for a special treat.
