Original recipe yields 1 serving
2 cups self-rising cornmeal
1 cup self-rising flour
2 cups milk (buttermilk can also be used and actually makes it better)
1 egg
1 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl with a spoon until moistened. Batter will be a little lumpy.

Grease an 8-inch cast iron skillet and heat the skillet on the stove just until oil begins to get hot. Pour batter into the skillet. It should sizzle a little.

Transfer the skillet of batter to the oven and bake about 20 minutes or until the top of the bread is brown.
