Brown meat first in oil (do not cook all the way), then take out of pan and put aside.
Chop up garlic and saute in oil. Then add can of tomato paste. Cook until turns a darker red (around 5-7 minutes). Fill tomato paste can with water, add to pan and stir. Cook for one minute. Open crushed tomatoes and put in pan. Fill crushed tomato can with water and add to pan.
Place bay leaves and Italian seasonings in pan. Add browned meat to pan. Bring to boil, and then turn down heat to simmer for several hours. Leave pan semi-covered (do not cover all the way).
