In a large soup pot place the potatoes and add enough water to just cover them. Cook until tender. When potatoes are just about tender, add lettuce to pot.
In a medium skillet, grill the onions, garlic, and spices. (you may add a small amount of cooking oil) When the onions are clear and ready, add the contents of skillet to the pot, and add the soup base/bouillon.
Let this mixture simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until everything is well cooked. Let cool. Place soup in a blender, and puree. Serve with a dab of creme fraiche, or sour cream. Bon Appétit!
