1 cup shortening or margarine
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
3-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups cut up candied cherries
2 cups cut up dates
1 & 1/2 cups chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Stir in buttermilk. Add dry ingredients slowly. Stir after each addition to creamed mixture. Gently stir in cherries, dates and pecans.

Drop tablespoons full of dough onto a cookie sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on wire rack.
