Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place butter in a large bowl and soften (not melt) in the microwave, about 30-45 seconds. Cream together with sugars, and add egg and vanilla. Combine baking soda, salt, and flour in a medium sized bowl and gradually stir into the butter-sugar mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop by rounded tablespoon onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper (optional).
Place tray on center rack and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool and enjoy!
