Original recipe yields 1 serving
1 1/2 cups corn meal
3 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 egg
2 cups buttermilk
3 Tbsp hot shortening

Mix dry ingredients together. Add egg and buttermilk and stir well.

Heat shortening in iron skillet. Pour 2 Tbsp. into cornbread mix leaving remaining in skillet. Pour mix in hot skillet.

Bake 400°F for 25-30 minutes.
