Original recipe yields 1 serving
1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. flour
2 tsp salt
Pepper
Garlic salt
2 lb beef cube steaks
5 Tbsp vegetable oil, divided
1 clove garlic
1 cup diced green pepper
1 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cans (14 oz. each) stewed tomatoes
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp beef soup base
1/4 cup hot water

Preheat oven at 350 degrees F. In zippered plastic bag mix flour, salt, pepper and garlic salt. Add steak and shake until thoroughly coated. Fry in 3 Tbsp. hot oil until seared brown. Remove from pan.

In Dutch oven heat remaining 2 Tbsp. oil; add garlic, green pepper, celery and onion. Cook until brown. Add tomatoes, soy sauce and soup base (diluted in the hot water). Add steak and mix.

Cover and bake for 1 1/4 hours, until meat is tender. Let stand 10 minutes and serve.
