In a heavy saucepan saute the onions in butter until soft.
Stir in curry powder and rice; cook and stir two minutes.
Add the remaining ingredients and stir with a fork. Bring to a boil.
Lower heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes. Remove bay leaf before serving.
