Original recipe yields 1 serving
1 large yellow onion
1.5 "tubes" saltines
2.5 lb s. hamburger (70% lean)
2 eggs
1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce, divided
Fresh ground black pepper
Russets potatoes
Canned green beans

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Peel first thick layer off of onion, slice lengthwise, cut off both ends, and remove core. Dice onion into 1/4 inch slices and separate layers.

Put saltines in bottom of mixing bowl and crush until fine. Place onion on top of saltines. Place hamburger on top. Break two eggs on top. Pour 1/2 can of tomato sauce on top. Grind black pepper on top to taste, thoroughly mix all ingredients with hands and form into a ball.

Spray 13x9x2 pan with non-stick spray. Turn meat mixture out into pan and form a rectangular flat loaf about two inches high with steep sides. Press down middle of loaf to form a 1/4 inch ridge all around edge. Lightly drizzle some remaining tomato sauce on rim/outside edge to cover sides of loaf. Pour remaining tomato sauce into depression on top of loaf and tilt pan to distribute evenly.

Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Slice crosswise into two inch slices for serving.
