Original recipe yields 1 serving
2 cups warm water
2 pkg yeast
4 tsp sugar
4 cups flour
2 tsp salt
Melted butter
Beaten egg & water (for glaze)

Mix together water, yeast & sugar. Sift flour & salt. Stir into water mixture & mix until smooth. Let rise covered until double (about 1 hour).

Punch & knead 4 minutes. Shape into 2 or 3 loaves. Brush with melted butter 3 or 4 times. Let rise until double (about 30 minutes).

Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes; then 30 minutes at 350°F. Five minutes before removing, brush with beaten egg and a little water to make a glaze.
