Blend oil, sugar, and vanilla in a mixing bowl; add eggs and beat with a spoon. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Gradually add egg mixture until well blended. Stir in nuts (optional).
Spread in greased 9-inch square pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from edge of pan. Cool in pan. Frost if desired. Cut in squares.
