Brown chicken and onion in butter. Layer in a 9x13 pan: broccoli, chicken, and onion.
Make sauce with flour and milk. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour sauce over veggies and chicken. Pour bag of tater tots over top.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes or until tater tots are golden brown. Remove from oven, sprinkle with the cheese, and place back in oven until cheese melts.
