Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment, no grease. In large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, baking soda, vanilla, salt. Beat in egg. Whisk in flour. Stir in chips, nuts, and coconut.
Shape dough into 1" balls, and place on baking sheets, leaving 2" between (or drop onto sheets from spoon).
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Bake longer for crisp cookie or shorter for soft cookie. Remove from oven, remove from sheet and cool on rack.
