Drain sweet potatoes and save small amount of juice (for moister texture).
Melt butter in microwave and add sweet potatoes with juice and mash. Add sugar, egg, and vanilla. Mix well. Bake in oven 350 degrees F for 15 minutes.
While this is warming, mix together topping; Melt butter in pan on low. Turn off stove and remove pan from stove. Add flour and mix well, stir in brown sugar, nuts, and coconut.
Remove sweet potatoes, and top, and return to oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
