4 cups of all-purpose flour (more if need to make dough rollable)
1/2 cup butter
4 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients in order given, adding one at a time and then mixing. Chill in a covered bowl or Ziploc bag in the refrigerator at least one hour or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll or pat out to 1/3" thick, and then cut with Christmas Cookie Cutters. Spray Cookie Baking Sheets with Non-Stick spray. Place cooking on baking sheet.
Place in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
In a bowl beat butter till fluffy. Gradually add 2 cups of the powdered sugar, beating well. Slowly beat in the 1/4 cup of milk and vanilla. Slowly beat in the remaining powder sugar. Add more milk for spreading consistency. Tint with food coloring, if desired.
