Original recipe yields 1 serving
2-3 lb fresh green beans
Ice water
2 scallions
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 teaspoon basil
2 Tbsp sesame seeds
1/2 cup milk
Canola oil
Parchment paper
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell peppers

In a large pot bring 3/4 filled with salted water to a rolling boil. In the meantime, cut off both ends of green beans. (These pieces are bitter) Carefully place beans in water. Boil for approx. 5-6 minutes.

Use a spider spatula and transfer beans to the ice water.(This stops the cooking process but maintains the green color) Take beans out of the water to dry.

Pull off a thin strip of scallion and lay it down in a horizontal manner. Take enough green beans (about 1 inch in diameter) and place vertically over onion strip. Tie a knot around beans. Then, with a wider strip of scallions form a bow to the beans.

Heat oil until a drop of water quickly sizzles. In a bowl, add flour and 1 teaspoon each of each spice listed and sesame seeds. Mix well.

Pour milk in a bowl. Dip beans in milk, then in flour mixture. Carefully place in oil. Fry in oil until beans become light golden brown. Carefully take out of oil and place on parchment paper.

With a paring knife cut out designs in peppers such as Christmas trees and/or bells (about 1 inch long) Tie on beans using a toothpick. Alternate colors of red and green on the table. Enjoy!
