Cream together the sugar and the shortening until it looks like ice cream. Whip by hand it is better. Now add the buttermilk and cream and stir so it is well mixed, then add the dry ingredients.
Roll on floured surface and cut with cookie cutter.
Bake at 350°F until the bottom is just light brown, then cool on rack and frost any way you like.
