Original recipe yields 1 serving
large 3 or 4 potatoes
1 1/2 cups diced ham
small 4 or 5 long stem onions
5 or 6 stems fresh chives
2/3 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese
3 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp flour
1 can milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup water
2 or 3 shakes of garlic powder
Fresh ground pepper, dash of salt

Peel and slice potatoes, dice ham and onions, cut up chives, grate the parmesan cheese.

Over medium heat melt butter, add flour, and brown. When thick add the premixed milk, cream and water (this should equal three cups of liquid).

Stir with wire whip while bringing just to a boil; stir in the grated cheese to melt and add the garlic powder, salt, pepper. When this mixture thickens pour over potatoes ham, onions and chives.

Cover and bake at 350°F for 1 hour, uncover and bake 15 minutes more.
