Preheat oven to 350°F. In one bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. In another bowl, combine egg, milk and melted butter. Add milk mixture to flour mixture, stirring until the flour is well moistened, but not totally smooth. A few small lumps are OK. Fold in nuts and dates.
Pour batter into greased 9x5x3 loaf pan.
Bake for 1 hour or until done. Cool 5-10 minutes before removing from pan.
