Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour (2) 9-inch cake pans. Cream together butter and sugar, add eggs and beat until well blended. Add flour and buttermilk alternately, beginning and ending with flour. Beat for about 4 minutes. Add vanilla and mix well.
Pour into prepared pans.
Bake for 25 minutes or until top springs back when touched and cake pulls away from sides of pan.
