Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cloves and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside. Beat butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in molasses and egg yolk. Stir in flour mixture and mix well. Form into a ball and chill for 1 hour.
Roll dough out, about 1/4 at a time on a sugar sprinkled surface until 1/8 inch thick. Then cut cookies and place on greased baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg. Decorate with raisin eyes.
