Grammie's Italian Tomato Sauce & Meatballs

Original recipe yields 1 serving
1 can (28 oz.) tomato puree
2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste
3 Tbsp grating cheese
Garlic powder (to taste)
1 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
2 shakes crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp basil
Salt & pepper (to taste)
Meatballs:
3 lb hamburger
3 eggs
cups 1/2 or 3/4 breadcrumbs
1/2 cup grated cheese
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, (all to taste) Chopped onion (if desired)
Small amount dried mint

In a large pot, add puree and then fill that can 3/4 up with water, and also add to pot. Put in tomato paste, then fill each empty can with water twice, scraping the sides of the cans, and add to pot. Add grating cheese, and other seasonings. Stir to mix. Add more water if the sauce seems too thick. It's better to add too much water, and let it boil down, than have it too thick.

Bring the sauce to a boil, then lower heat and simmer with a lid for about 1 1/2 hours.

Meatballs: Mix all together and make balls and drop into sauce that is simmering. Let them sit in sauce about 20 minutes before stirring.
